2016 Season in Review
Lawrence North finished the season with record of 24-11, winning the Marion County Championship consecutively for the first time in school history. This is the fifth overall county championships for the volleyball program. Lady Wildcats finished the year ranked 9th
in the Coaches Poll, being recognized for having played nine of the top eleven ranked teams in Indiana. In addition to winning the County, highlights included knocking off defending national champion and state’s top ranked team, Cathedral in a thrilling five setter. Lady Wildcats also defeated 2014 national champion and Kentucky’s second ranked team, Mercy Academy early in the year. Other notable wins included defeating Class 2A State Champ Wapahani, sectional winners, Hammond Bishop Noll, Perry Meridian, Mishawaka Marian and Floyd Central.
Junior middle, Lauren Matthews was named 1st
Team All State and repeated as both All County and All Conference. Senior outside, Madeleine Dean, signed with IUPUI, was named 2nd
Team All State and also repeated as both All County and All Conference. Senior defensive player of the year, Madison Cunningham, signed with Eastern Illinois, repeated as All County player. Madeleine and Lauren were also named to the Indiana All Star teams.
Senior captain Lily Goldstein made the Academic All-State Team. Seniors Madeleine Dean and Carlee Cole were named Honorable Mention Academic All-State.
We bid farewell to seniors Madeleine Dean, Madison Cunningham, Lily Goldstein, Liz Knotts, Sammi Bradshaw, Carlee Cole and Shania Boyd. They leave behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, team work, loyalty and accomplishments. The senior class started their careers by winning the Freshman County Tournament and repeated as County Champs the last two years, finishing ranked 9th
in the State.
Lady Wildcats will return six varsity players for next year. Offensive players of the Year, junior setter Megan Beasley and outside hitter Lizzie Beasley, both a University of Toledo commit, Western Kentucky commit Lauren Matthews, a defensive specialist Kendall Cole, starting middle Maya Barber along with sophomore outside Adrianne Vance. Current JV and Freshman team players will have an opportunity to fill the void vacated by departing seniors.
