Parent Information

Welcome to the 2018-19 season!

Our booster club is called Baseball Backers. If you have an athlete on the team you are a baseball backer.

If you are not on our email list, please inform LNbaseballbackers@yahoo.com & add them to your email list.

MEETINGS – The LN baseball coaching staff will hold parent & player meetings in the fall (for returning and prospective players) and in spring (for those on the team).

PRACTICES/WORKOUTS – Go on throughout the year. Must have a physical on file at LN to practice.

As with all high school sports, athletes are required to go to all in-season (spring) practices. If you have to miss a practice, you are required to contact your coach. E-mail addresses are on the coaches tab.

From Coach Winz: Cell phone is the best and quickest, but if it is something you know about in advance face to face is best or if it is something that happens that morning you can e-mail the coach. I did tell the players that you don’t miss anything, that they made a commitment to the team and they should be there, but we do understand that emergency’s do occur.

Tryouts typically are held the second week of March, depending upon the IHSAA calendar.  Contact the LN atheltic department for details for exact dates and times.  Wear baseball pants, cleats, bring tennis shoes in case of rain, & baseball hats. Bring your own equipment (bats, gloves, helmet, batting gloves, catchers gear, sunglasses, etc.).

Outside spring/baseball season practices start the week of tryouts. They will take place after school @ 4:00pm. End times vary. See your individual coach. Plan on practice everyday after school as well as on Saturday mornings. Varsity is required to go to spring break practices.

Tryouts and practice will either take place on the varsity and JV/freshman baseball fields, football field or in case of rain they will be in the LN fieldhouse (no cleats).

Summer workouts – There will be 2-3 workouts per week. More info to come once we approach the summer months. Camps are also available. See camps tab on the main page of this website.

Fall workouts –  Two times per week after school. If you are not in a fall sport, you are expected to be there. Fall workouts end with a Red/Green tournament. Players will be divided into two teams picked by the senior captains. This is a great event and team bonding experience!

Winter workouts

  • Begin mid January, practicing time run 5:30am – 7:40am (8:10am at the latest) in the LN fieldhouse.  Practice dates and times will be announced by the coaching staff. The first two weeks are usually for pitchers and catchers only. Position players come in at 5:30 or 6:00am (depending on the day) for hitting, as cages are open. Pitchers and catchers continue with the 5:30am start.
  • There usually is a practice on Martin Luther King Day.
  • The last morning workout will be the Friday, before tryouts.

SAT/ACT – Do not schedule SAT or ACT on a game day.  Here are the testing dates for 2018-19:

ONE CALL – The LN Baseball Backers has initiated a One Call Service for the teams similiar to Principal Crousore’s Sunday night calls. This call will be extremely helpful during the season for late schedule changes, cancelled games, location changes, time changes etc. If you wish to receive a call and you have not already provided  LNbaseballbackers@yahoo.com with 2 numbers per family, please respond with your information.

TEAM PACK – Each player is required to purchase a team pack. The jersey is owned by the school and must be returned at the end of the season. Bus fees are covered by the Baseball Backers.

CONCESSION STAND/VOLUNTEERING – All baseball families are required to work one concession stand session per player on the team. Other volunteer opportunities are available. See Volunteer page.

FUNDRAISING –  Donations are needed and vital to the success of the baseball program. A crowdfunding campaign may be included as part of this endeavor. The team has traditionally sold poinsettias during the holidays as well as coffee/drink travel mugs. The baseball backers will hold a fall fundraiser, chili cookoff during basketball season, as well as Dine-to-Donate events throughout the year.

INFORMATION – will be available via booster backer e-mail, LN (Coach Winzenread) e-mail, this website, meetings, one call and twitter. Make sure parent and athlete are signed up for Twitter @weRtheWildcats.
